Blurb

An illustrated and practical guide to being a witch in Discworld, covering everything you’ve ever wanted to know from telling the bees to magical cheese, from dealing with elves to making deals with demons, from tending flocks to fending off forces from other worlds. This beautiful and practical guide has been compiled by Tiffany Aching herself, including snippets of remembered wisdom from Granny Aching alongside notes from Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Miss Tick, and Rob Anybody who offer their own unique perspectives on all things witchcraft. Whether you’re a herbologist or a headologist, this book will inspire and empower new witches and seasoned practitioners alike.

Contents

The book contains (in Rhianna Pratchett’s words) “musings on witchly matters such as apprenticeships, attire, magic, gods, monsters and (of course) Feegles, and containing annotations from your favourite witches”. Most of the text is written by Tiffany, with annotations by Granny, Nanny, Miss Tick, Rob Anybody, Mrs Earwig and occasionally others, in particular Ms Level.

After an “About the Author” note describing Tiffany, and further introductory notes from Nanny Ogg, Granny Weatherwax (obscuring most of Nanny’s note) and Letice Earwig - all pinned into the “manuscript” - Tiffany’s book has seventeen chapters:

  1. On Being a Witch
  2. Becoming a Witch
  3. Hierarchy & Sisterhood
  4. The Country Witch
  5. Specialist Witches
  6. Witch Attire & Accessories
  7. Witch Magic (includes a section on Borrowing by Granny Weatherwax (transcribed by Miss Tick), and one on shambles by Miss Level)
  8. Equipment
  9. The Power of the Land
  10. Familiars & Companions
  11. The Nac Mac Feegle
  12. A Witch’s Abode
  13. On Gods, & Other Monsters
  14. Perils & Pitfalls (includes a section on the Dungeon Dimensions by Eskarina Smith)
  15. Paths Less Travelled (includes a section on Sheds by Geoffrey Swivel)
  16. Life & Death
  17. On Journeys
