I am just feeling curious... is the meaning of "rattle the drawer" as written here clear to everybody?  My first language is not English and when I read the book I spent a few minutes trying to figure out why the action was called rattling.  It was also the first time that I found out that the situation could be described as "stick" (the meanings I had been aware of before this was "stick" as "glue it to" or in the same way as "stick it where the sun don't shine"). I propose that the sentence be modified to: 'When a drawer cannot open because of some object inside it sticking in the way, someone shakes and unsuccessfully pulls the drawer making a rattling sound, and cries "How can it close on the damned thing but not open with it? Who bought this? Do we ever use it?", even though the person might be genuinely irritated or even exasperated, it is a praise unto Anoia.' We are a wiki, so we ought to make things clear and understandable even to little kiddies. The ancestral home of the aristocratic Ramkin family occupies a good length of [[Scoone Avenue]] near [[King's Way]] on the monied slope of [[Ankh (city)|Ankh]].  
Ramkin House is located on a hilly section of Scoone Avenue, "a wide, tree-lined, incredibly select part of Ankh. The house commanded an outcrop that gave it a magnificent view of the city" ({{G!G!}}).  The gatepost has stone dragons, and the garden has stone statuary of Ramkin ancestors. The grounds are large and include dragons pens, an ornamental pool, etc.

When [[Sam Vimes]] first saw the estate, the gardens were overgrown, vines covering the statues of past Ramkins. Lady [[Sybil Ramkin|Sybil]] lived in three rooms of the vast mansion, in an ascetic manner that outraged [[Nobby Nobbs]] (rich people have no right to live like poor people). Since becoming the seat of the Duke of Ankh and Commander of the [[City Watch]], the old place has been spruced up and aired out, and more staff hired. (There's the dignity of the title, and entertaining, and a [[Young Sam|baby]], of course.) When he moved in, Sir Samuel began an array of booby traps around the house to guard against Assassins. The [[Assassins' Guild|Assassins]] will no longer entertain any contract on His Grace, but students may be unable to resist the challenge of creeping "Old Stoneface's" house for a virtual attack. They always regret this bravado.

The estate has a large group of dragon pens behind the house, built with very thick walls, but a flimsy, umbrella-like roof. This style is popular for explosives factories as well. At one point ({{T!}}) Lady Sybil had 26 dragons in the pens. Spare capacity in the dragon pens and elsewhere in the grounds was used to house the animal population of the [[College of Heralds]], following an inexplicable outbreak of fire there. It is not known if any of the menagerie is still there at the Ramkin household, but Roderick the hippopotamus and his close friend of the same species ''really'' appreciated the freedom of the ornamental lake (see {{FOC}}). Given Vimes' penchant for making the house and grounds Assassin-proof, and knowing the territorial imperative for a hippo defending its wallowing hole is a strong one, and that an angry hippo can bite a man in half.... bets, anyone?

I think the word was purposely chosen for audiovisual writing effect. But explaining the expression makes it look a bit silly. And to add in a ''poisson rouge'', the word "rattling" can also be used as a colloquial verb, as in "he was rattling around in the big house" or "he rattled round the corner". Sorry about that, but considering English has the largest collection of words in its vocabulary of any language we have an irritating habit of ascribing 2,3 or 4 meanings to many many words as if we had a paucity of them.--[[User:Knmatt|Knmatt]] 10:15, 11 September 2010 (CEST)
