Al Khali
From Discworld & Pratchett Wiki
Al Khali (also referenced as "Khali" in Pyramids), an ancient and prosperous city, is currently the capital of Klatch, and on the opposite shore of the Circle Sea to Ankh-Morpork and the Sto Plains, near the mouth of the Tsort River. First encountered in Sourcery, Al-Khali is particularly noted for its Harem Frescos.
In Jingo Al-Khali was the staging area for the fleet with which Prince Cadram intended to invade Ankh-Morpork. Also, in Sourcery, Al Khali is where Abrim built the tower of magic to fight Coin.
Annotation
On Roundworld, al- is a prefix in the Arabic language which functions as a definite article, comparable to the English word the. However, al- never stands as a word by itself, but is always joined to the beginning of the word it modifies -- for example, 'the book' is al-kitab, which is written a+l+k+t+a+b+.
And in chemistry, an alkali (again from the from Arabic: Al-Qaly a+l+q+a+l+) is a basic, ionic salt of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal element. Alkalis are best known for being bases (compounds with pH greater than 7) that dissolve in water.
Yet another TPism of putting two and two together and creating five.
