Balancing Monks

The belief of the Balancing Monks is a strange one. They believe that the Discworld is likely to topple at any moment unless it is kept perfectly balanced. So monks are sent out to put a weight somewhere to maintain, well, balance. Many a traveller has tripped over a 1lb weight on some mountain peak. The weights are always less than 14.14 pounds.
They must be correct as the Disc is still the right way up.
The monks do not actively recruit but the monastery is open to all who can reach it. As it is reached by a tightrope over a deep canyon with winds to make it fun they seldom have to reject anyone.
