Robert Dearheart is the founder of the Grand Trunk Semaphore Company. His skills are on the technical side, inventing new and better ways to use the clacks, making sure the maintenance is done. The financial side was a bit of a mystery to him and his companions, which made it easy for Reacher Gilt and his consorts to take the company from them.

Dearheart has two children, Adora Belle and John. In the events around the Grand Trunk during Going Postal, John died in an "accident".
