Possible Annotation:

"Washpot", Visit's Watch nickname, evokes a suggestion of Stephen Fry's autobiography "Moab is my Washpot", itself a slight misreading of one of those Old Testament quotes (Psalm 60:8) where the LORD promises to smite Israel's heathen neighbours and humble them in various inventively unedifying ways before the Chosen People. Moab, as Israel's closest neighbour, gets smitten more often than most (only because there are no more Midianites,) and being turned into a vessel where the Chosen People may wash the grime off their feet seems a pretty humble fate...--AgProv 14:52, 2 May 2007 (CEST)

Is there nowhere to run?

On my morning commute to work today, the bus was full of clean-cut Mormon missionaries exuding holiness and piety. They were on their way to spread the news of Christ's North American encore in one of the less favoured parts of Manchester... on the way they practiced on their fellow travellers.

I like to think I got a few digs into my would-be saviour, largely about the Mormon church's historical attitude to women and black people. (the Church of LDS maintained a racist theology up until the 1970's: it only reluctantly stopped being a whites-only church when the US Gov't threatened to remove the tax privileges American churches get, on the gorunds that the tax system could not be seen to be rewarding racism). If the Founders of Mormonism could be wrong about black people, and wrong about polygamy, what else, including things you are currently preaching as articles of faith, could be wrong?

I hate people who spoil my quiet morning comute to weork - I hope commuter evangelism doesn't catch on!--AgProv 14:48, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
