New page

Ref. the Librarian turned into an ape in this year.

A quick Google turns up the accepted fact that an orang can expect to live for 35 to 40 years in the wild and up to 60 years in captivity. (I'm assuming "captivity" means life in a well-ordered zoo where the ape might expect three meals a day, a warm comfy place to sleep, medical attention on call, and no predators. Longleat might be the orang equivalent of a five-star hotel... and of course the Librarian has set out a well-ordered life for himself in Ankh-Morpork.)

But.

How old was Worblehat when he changed species? Thirties? Forties? We can infer he has lived 24 years since as an orang. But how much of a human lifespan did he have prior to that - and how much is left as an orang? Could we be looking at "natural causes" and a job vacancy in the next few years? Has establishing the timeline inadvertently put the Librarian one step nearwer to Death? --AgProv 10:51, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

:Well, UU has a powerful magnetic field, and human wizards can expect to reach 130 (if not removed by ambitious younger wizards!) Solicitr 00:44, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
::He's even called the old man of the forest back home in Bhangbhangduc. No, I wouldn't order flowers for the Librarian yet (bananas are always welcome, of course). --Old Dickens 19:16, 16 April 2010 (UTC)...but then I wonder if an orang in Bhangbhangduc didn't suddenly change into a human looking a lot like Horace Worblehat, who's now using his big brain and nimble fingers in some special capacity in ape society? --Old Dickens 19:23, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Speculative addition?
Think we should/could add 'Ponder Stibbons is born' into here too? If we take he's 24 in 'Last Continent' he should have been born either '64 or '65--LilMaibe 04:51, 28 June 2011 (CEST)
