There are some other parallels, such as one group of the rats wanting to leave the country and return to &amp;#039;civilisation&amp;#039; near humans. Though I guess many of the themes in the Bromeliad are quite universal anyway.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This story was well known and influential to me in childhood in the UK (though it&amp;#039;s an American book). I wonder how likely it is that Pterry would have been aware of the story, and if it&amp;#039;s worth putting into this article (or the [[Diggers]] article itself), but thought I&amp;#039;d ask first :-)&lt;br /&gt;
