Just querying whether we want to to leave this "definition" in. Although it is absolutely hilarious, I believe Terry Pratchett was referring to the Greek word "phos" (Latinized a bit for his purposes) that actually does mean light, i.e. photographer-taking pictures with light. This quoted definition is more likely a stab at real world photographers who do tend to "prance about like they own the place".

Then again, a fundamental atomic particle such as the ''photon'' is perfectly capable of getting quantum physicists tangled up in their own superstrings... as it can be both a wave and a particle depending on whim and is the root cause, therefore, of the Uncertainty Principle.
