Convivium

This has two meanings on the Discworld. Both involve gatherings of professionally qualified people sitting in intellectual judgement of their peers.

• It is the Degree-conferment ceremony at Unseen University, in which the Archchancellor, University Council, eighth level wizards, masters and doctors proceed from the University to the Opera House. They are led by the Commander of the Watch, or if there isn't one, then by a man carrying a pot of mustard and a quill. Foreign dignitaries, city officials and nobles are also invited to this ceremony, and upon arrival at the Opera House, the Patrician will present the graduates with their degrees.

• It is also a process of forensic examination of evidence, generally carried out at the Patrician's Palace at the decree of Lord Vetinari, in which often complex and seemingly contradictory or intentionally confusing evidence is examined, dissected, assessed, analysed, and conclusions reached. These were, in the case of Reacher Gilt, inimical to his continued happiness, peace of mind and ability to function as a big-name financier and businessman.
