A citizen of Genua, de Vere was Captain of the Palace Guard during the reign of the Duc and Lilith de Tempscire. He conspired to remove the original ruler, Baron Saturday, and on Lilith's orders murdered the Baron and threw his body into the swamp.
This allowed the Duc to supplant the Baron's daughter and rightful heir, Ella Saturday, as ruler of Genua.
