Annotation

Samothrace was the Greek name for what later became Scythia, noted in Greek histories for its horse-archers and which is thought to be the starting-point of the Amazon myth of fighting warrior women. Located on the Black Sea in what later became the USSR, it played host to Mongols, Turks and latterly Russia's fighting Cossacks. Interestingly, a country called Kythia appears on The Discworld Mapp, just hubwards of the Genua delta. Could this be the "modern" Discworld region that was once Samothrip?
