A Lancre man who in the opinion of Nanny Ogg had sophisticated tastes, as at the sight of a button-down boot he would feel the need to go off by himself for a quiet lie-down.

Annotation

To add to Mr Whistley's woes, and meaning the people closest to him have not only to be sensitive and compassionate but most crucially literate, the technical term for his particular interest is, er, podophilia. The approximate spelling common on the Discworld would really not be adequate here.
