Mr and Mrs Silver are the butler and head housekeeper at Crundells, the Ramkin country house in The Shires.

Mrs Silver has an air about her suggestive of the sinister Mrs Danvers, housekeeper at Manderly and bane of the life of the ill-used Mrs deWinter in Daphne duMaurier's Rebecca, a classic novel of the sinister big country house.
