Slipdry
Mrs Slipdry is the Ankh-Morporkian midwife who carries the heavy responsibility of having brought Nobby Nobbs kicking and sidling into the world.
This otherwise hard-working, conscientious and diligent woman was also arraigned before the Patrician to give the crucial testimony that confirmed Nobby's species as human. Nobby was at the same time required to carry the written judgment with him at all times, to brandish in the event of any lingering doubt.
The note reads:
I, after hearing evidence from a number of experts, including Mrs Slipdry the midwife, certify that the balance of probability is that the bearer of this document, C. W. St John Nobbs, is a human being.
