Just found an interesting quote in my Men at Arms e-book (page 218/278):
“Fifth volunteer so far,” said Colon to Corporal Nobbs, as Cuddy and his new recruit pounded off into the darkness. “Even the Dean at the University tried to join. Amazing.”
Is this the same Dean? And what on earth made him think he should be a Watchman!? JaffaCakeLover 17:20, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

The Dean is notoriously fond of war games and blowing things up. Very dangerous man with a loaded staff. --Old Dickens 22:07, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Full name

At a book signing with Terry I asked him if the dean has a last name and the reply was Porter.

  • Anyone who could confirm that?--LilMaibe 02:11, 2 July 2011 (CEST)
It would be nice if someone could confirm that; I don't even know whether Henry is his given or family name. Then comes the question of whether The Author's bantering comments outside the books are canon or at all reliable, devious rascal that he is. --Old Dickens (talk) 23:37, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
"The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter is that his name wasn’t Henry Porter." - Bob Dylan (Brownsville Girl)
Henry Porter is a journalist with The Observer and a writer of thrillers. --Old Dickens (talk) 01:12, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
