A small but maddening point.

I suspect there is an Annotation lurking in this name somewhere and that "Marco Soto" is somehow a play on the noted Roundworld explorer Marco Polo, who famously went from Rennaissance Italy to the Mystic Orient.

Soto has explored in the opposite direction: from Discworld's equivalent of hidden Tibet ( a hidden valley in the hubward Ramtops) back to what Pterry thinks of as parellel to a late Rennnaisance city - Ankh-Morpork.

The problem is, I just cannot see a line of reasoning conclusively associating "Soto" to "Polo", it's just a bit too cryptic and abstract... any ideas out there? I don't mind if you claim credit for the annotation (once demonstrated) - it's your work....(unsigned comment by AgProv, 27 April 2007)

I seem to remember that he was one of the real-life people who were included as a result of large donations to the Orangs or some charity, like "Dr." Ken Follett. It's a curiously popular name in Google; I don't know which one it was. (At a guess, the editor of a fantasy collection called 'Earthdawn')--Old Dickens 18:22, 23 May 2007 (CEST)

...then again, the charity auction was in Texas, and guess what: Texas is full of Marco Sotos.--Old Dickens 19:54, 23 May 2007 (CEST)

The amount was $400 donated to 'Scotty's House'. And you're right, I'm an editor, layout artist, writer for 'Living Room Games'. -- Marco

Too bad we don't hear from more actual characters. Authoritative, that is. --Old Dickens 13:28, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Ah, Tuckerization. how are you enjoying the Wiki, Marco? --AgProv 14:09, 24 October 2011 (CEST)

Also trying to track down a Japanese Manga/Anime sort of thing featuring a monk called Yami - he is a model warrior monk except for one thing. The seperate living organism whch has taken over his head (hair) and his insistence that he will come over all kungfu on anyone who touches or otherwise messes with The Hair. I wonder if this was insiration for the character.... can't track it conclusively yet, though. AgProv 00:25, 13 July 2012 (CEST)
