Dim Sum is not a dish, as such. It's a meal, like Tea or Elevenses, but closer to the Spanish tapas: a selection of little treats of which the luncher (probably) may have several small dishes. These may be steamed or fried (rarely raw) fish, meat or vegetable dishes. The term translates as "a little something for the heart."
(This from within a few miles of the greatest concentration of Chinese restaurants this side of Hong Kong.) --Old Dickens 05:27, 23 February 2008 (CET)
