Rinpo is the smug and petty-minded chief acolyte of the Abbott at the temple of Oi Dong where the History Monks live and work. He has a dislike of anything unusual or against his way of thinking, and thus has an aversion to Lu-Tze, the diminutive sweeper whose name is legend but whose ways are not perhaps as holy as people like Rinpo would wish.
