Ars Lane

Ars Lane is not named on The Streets of Ankh-Morpork but is clearly depicted in the larger-scale map in the endpapers of The Discworld Companion. It connects Barrel Street, just widdershins of the University, with Eight Deadly Sins. The name is not necessarily a robust joke about the supposed gender preferences of wizards, but appears to derive from the old Latatian word for "Art", as in Tower of Art. It is interesting that the street orientates directly on the Tower, the oldest part of the university, and at one point may have led directly there, before the main University buildings were established, blocking it off ..
