Docks part of the Shades?

Can the docks, lifeblood of the city, be counted as part of the dangerous Shades? I would describe the Shades as a parasite to the docks, or the shades being older abandoned docks as there is a natural progression for harbours to move downriver over time.

Merchants would not allow crime to stifle their buisness, they have enough money to enforce private law on the docks and warehouses but wouldn't give a [rude]rats ass[\rude] what happens to sailors three blocks away from the warehouses.

I've never been to London but in Hamburg the gradual movement of the shippingbuisness is obvious on the city map. Iron Hippo 15:15, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

I have a long-running dispute with The Streets of Ankh-Morpork's definition of the Shades (see Talk:Ankh-Morpork.) There are other businesses all around the periphery which are also essential or popular. I have suggested that the large area on the Mapp is just the Shades area, while The Shades proper is a small area at the center around Shamlegger Street. --Old Dickens 17:20, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
