Hot damn. For my fan fiction, I invented, or so I thought, a florists' shop in Pelicool Steps just a door or two down from Grace Speaker's pet shop. This was a significant location in the story. Come The Compleat Ankh-Morpork, what sort of co-inspiration particles passed between my brain and Terry's? - Yeah, the new phenomenon of dark glasses for Reformed Vampires that I invented last year shows up at Argus Opticians. There's a lot of room for coincidences in the big city. I'm still fascinated by this name. "Steps" should indicate a riverside location, a landing, but there it is high and dry over by the Lady Sybil. Spanish has peliquero/a for wig maker. French, however, has perruquier; there's an English version of this word that is still used, as a professional term, by the last hold-outs of traditional wig-making who manufacture for the legal profession.
