In the childrens story 'Mrs. Frisby and the rats of NIMH' (wikipedia) the leader of the hyper intellegent rats (who use electricity, read and write and even have an elevator) is Nicodemus.. There are some other parallels, such as one group of the rats wanting to leave the country and return to 'civilisation' near humans. Though I guess many of the themes in the Bromeliad are quite universal anyway.
This story was well known and influential to me in childhood in the UK (though it's an American book). I wonder how likely it is that Pterry would have been aware of the story, and if it's worth putting into this article (or the Diggers article itself), but thought I'd ask first :-) EasyTarget 16:31, 14 March 2008 (CET)
