A skill known to the best blacksmiths and some specialist witches such as Gwinifer Blackcap. It involves talking to the horse in order to make it calm and compliant. This is most useful when it needs to be shoed. Jason Ogg is one such smith skilled in this technique and can take the most wild and frisky stallions into his forge, only to lead them out afterwards with new shoes and a more docile nature. When pressed by a witch to explain his technique he explained that first he stuns the horse and then whispers into it’s ear “cross me you bugger, and I’ll have thy goolies across the anvil. Thou knows I can.” After which the horse meekly complies to have it’s hooves shod.
