A Curious squid fisherman who fishes the sea about half way between Ankh-Morpork and Al Khali. Together with his son Les, he was the first person from Ankh-Morpork to land upon Leshp - or, more realistically, Leshp rose from underneath him and took him and his boat up with it. He subsequently claimed it in the name of Ankh-Morpork.

He uses a trident for fishing.

His great rival is Greasy Arif, another Curious squid fisherman who fishes in the same waters but who comes from Klatch. Greasy Arif also felt he was the first to set foot upon Leshp and he claimed it in the name of Klatch.

One thing led to another, and - after a brief altercation involving the wrong sons - their puny little argument escalated into a tense stand-off between the two mightiest powers on the Circle Sea.

Beyond the heady heights of international incidents, Solid feels much like any other father - bewildered at the rate of growth of his son, and a lack of comprehension as to why his son's ideas about his future do not coincide with his own.
