Skully used to live in Mincing Street where his mother made cough sweets prior to her accidental, and fatal, fall into the mixing vat.

In Guards! Guards!, Skully is one of the Palace Guard members who bring a proclamation about the dragon King's demand for a human sacrifice to the Watch House. By Men at Arms, he has transferred to the Day Watch, and rushes to Pseudopolis Yard for help after Quirke's racially-motivated arrest of Coalface provoke a mob of angry trolls to besiege the Day Watch headquarters.
