It has to be said, though, the jarring, un-Pratchett-like author's voice that so fouled up {{SOD4}} was not completely absent from {{RS}}. The dialogue between Mustrum Ridcully and Lu-Tze is written in this voice - which felt so utterly wrong for the characters or the usual quality of Discworld writing that you wondered if Rhianna had been given a few pages to write. Over on this side of the pond, I wasn't familiar with Awdry, but he, in turn, seemed to echo {{wp|The Little Engine That Could|''The Little Engine That Could''}}. I recall that from my childhood back in the steam age and it was elderly then. After the God-awful The Science of Discworld IV: Judgement Day and the dissappointingly lacklustre "Long Earth" books, this was not necessarily a given. It has to be said, though, the jarring, un-Pratchett-like author's voice that so fouled up The Science of Discworld IV: Judgement Day was not completely absent from Raising Steam. The dialogue between Mustrum Ridcully and Lu-Tze is written in this voice - which felt so utterly wrong for the characters or the usual quality of Discworld writing that you wondered if Rhianna had been given a few pages to write.
