Revision as of 20:41, 17 July 2017

Naturally, questions occur already. Do let us know when the pace allows for queries and suggestions. Props for the effort so far! --Old Dickens (talk) 17:52, 28 September 2012 (PDT)

Feel free to send me suggestions and questions. I'm going to try and get the rest of the configuration done this weekend ( hence emails not working yet ). --Osiris (talk) 06:40, 29 September 2012 (PDT)

Update

Yes, I'm still here and no i havent found a better way to keep out the spammers yet. Still looking :( --Osiris (talk) 03:20, 26 February 2013 (GMT)

Vandalism

There's something infecting Index.php; I can't revert it to the redirect it started as. --Old Dickens (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2013 (GMT)

and another example...I'm tempted to re-write it as "Redirect:Main Page" but I might be wrong. --Old Dickens (talk) 03:59, 13 April 2013 (GMT)

And another thing...

When Dragon4 MOVEs Raising Taxes to a different book, Raising Steam, I can't revert it. Strange days. --Old Dickens (talk) 02:54, 13 April 2013 (GMT)

Disaster

Bugger! That looks nasty. Hope you're managing. --Old Dickens (talk) 22:07, 23 April 2013 (GMT)

A New Level

Attempts to delete the vandals ending in "kettle" (‎Parent7kettle, ‎Taiwan5kettle) produce this message:
Database error A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

   (SQL query hidden)

from within function "DatabaseBase::update". Database returned error "1062: Duplicate entry '0-0-Main_Page' for key 'wl_user' (127.0.0.1:3307)".

Over to you. --Old Dickens (talk) 03:39, 8 June 2013 (GMT)

You were a week ahead of me... I noted that same thing over on the Mended Drum a day or two ago...AgProv (talk) 15:26, 19 June 2013 (GMT)

Create page permissions

Am posting this query here at suggestion of Old Dickens. There seems to be an issue with permissions regarding creating pages as I don't seem to have that option today. Yesterday I had the option but not today. Is there an issue with permissions? Is it just me being a newbie here or are there times when things work only when they feel like it? I have tried several times to create another user subpage (I have created three already so it did work) but so far without success. When trying to create an additional user subpage I get the generic response:

There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs, but you do not have permission to create this page.

Yesterday, it didn't say this. When trying to create a page in the main namespace there's no create page tab and I get the generic search response when there are no results:

There were no results matching the query.

It seems quite sporadic and most peculiar. Any chance you know what's wrong? Thanks. --CelticWanderer  talk | contribs | email 00:05, 9 June 2013 (GMT)

I've been messing around with permissions lately. --Osiris (talk) 18:52, 9 June 2013 (GMT)
I just noticed I can can create pages now. Thanks. --CelticWanderer  talk | contribs | email 21:45, 9 June 2013 (GMT)

Well, well,

Floods, Weddings: what do you have planned for the rest of the year?
Congratulations from one who has managed to stay married - it can be done. . --Old Dickens (talk) 00:38, 19 June 2013 (GMT)

Floods, Wedding, Toddler. Take your pick. --Osiris (talk) 17:07, 19 June 2013 (GMT)

New hope

Hallelujah, I think, but if you activated QwestyCaptcha yesterday it's not working. Perhaps you lost a day in the process? Old Dickens (talk) 17:54, 31 August 2013 (GMT)

Oh well, I just got back from my honeymoon and still don't know what day it is :) --Osiris (talk) 07:24, 1 September 2013 (GMT)

More bad news?

Damn! Sorry to hear about your latest misfortune (not even mentioning a flood). It's been an annus horribilis in Illinois, apparently. I hope nothing terrible has happened to AgProv, who's strangely missing; we're sure short-handed. Spam, blessedly, is entirely absent since Qwesty. --Old Dickens (talk) 00:59, 16 October 2013 (GMT)

User Rights

I need a seminar on 'User group rights' / permissions. The practice doesn't seem to conform to the list in Special:ListGroupRights. Some users appear to have rights they shouldn't and new users apparently can't create User Pages, which seems counterproductive. "Implicit members of Autoconfirmed Users" seem to have more rights than the list says: who are they? Daibhid C, a world-class expert and former faqmaintainer is an "autoconfirmed user": is that enough? --Old Dickens (talk) 01:14, 19 October 2013 (GMT)

Now that we appear to have the spam problem under control I can open those rights back up. It'll have to wait until I get home though. --Osiris (talk) 14:59, 21 October 2013 (GMT)

Did you make it home yet? With a new book coming up quickly it seems like a good time to expand the rolls. I get the impression that people are signing on, finding that they can't even create a user page, and giving up. Also, does the list of User group rights need to be so complicated? Why can't a User naturally be able to create or edit as before? It looks like maybe four more classes than necessary. --Old Dickens (talk) 00:11, 6 November 2013 (GMT)

Plagues of Frogs?

Wow! You got hit again, didn't you? Someone in Illinois must have done something bad. Everything OK at your house? --Old Dickens (talk) 01:00, 21 November 2013 (GMT)

My house is fine. I'm on the fire dept so I'm not home much right now. --Osiris (talk) 12:15, 21 November 2013 (GMT)
