- The titular cat’s name is quite likely a reference to “Morris the Cat”, the long-running mascot of 9Lives cat food, who appeared in television commercials and print advertising campaigns in both the US and (to lesser extent) the UK between 1968 and at least 2006. The original Morris played the role for a decade until his death in 1978, but the character continued to be popular, especially in the 1980s. In the best-known UK commercials Morris was voiced by Richard Briers.
