Are you sure the book reference should be to The Last Continent (XXXX/Australia-based), not to Interesting Times (Agatean Empire/China-and-Japan-based)?

A sidenote on the word

Isn't AGATEophobia also the fear of going insane? Maybe it wasn't on purpose, but it still is rather fitting...--LilMaibe 21:31, 24 April 2011 (CEST)

Very unusual word. It doesn't appear in the Shorter OED or dictionary.com and I can't find a root for it either. (You must have found it in deviantART.) --Old Dickens 22:13, 24 April 2011 (CEST)
Nope, In Neon Unnützes Wissen (Neon is a german magazin and the category has 20 quite useless facts in each issue. Lately they brought out books with 1347 useless facts...which I bought)--LilMaibe 23:34, 24 April 2011 (CEST)

It's kosher.

[1], [2]--AgProv 00:19, 26 April 2011 (CEST)

Yea, I saw example (1) already. The odd thing is that it's not found in major dictionaries and the root is really obscure. --Old Dickens 00:58, 26 April 2011 (CEST)

According to the An Unofficial Companion to the Novels of Terry Pratchett by Andrew M. Butler: 'Agate is a form of silica, often used to make china; of course the Agatean Empire is a parody of CHina, and the royal family of China had the jade emperor as a deity..., jade also being a form of silica.' People have mixed opinions on said book AFAIK. As I think some of the 'annotions' are just Mr Butler's wild guesses instead of 'word of god'--LilMaibe 23:07, 7 May 2012 (CEST)
