It's driving me nuts.... an American prude, a spiritual sister of Mary Whitehouse and Anaglypta, who was active, I think in New York, as part of a "public decency and moral committee", between 1910-1940. She did things like get the New York Police Dept to close down art galleries showing nudes, forced underwear shops not to put the merchandise on display for fear of corrupting young minds, and CERTAINLY NOT on lifesize mannequins (she prosecuted a shop for having a nude mannequin in the window...) and I just cannot remember her name! Help!--AgProv 15:01, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Anaglypta work in low relief (probably on a gemstone;) proprietary name of an embossed wallpaper.
I can't find any particular American equivalent, but of course it's a cottage industry and there's always somebody, beside the whole Legion of Decency. --Old Dickens 00:49, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Found him!

After much searching and head-scratching, I have finally found the equivalent of Mary Whitehouse whose name will make sense to American readers. I knew there was one! However, it's not a she - it's a he. No wonder it took so long to track down! (Citation: Made in America by Bill Bryson, Black Swan Books, 1994)--AgProv 10:37, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
