Talk:Cephut

Hmm.... possibility of an association to Anoia here? If the gods of Djelibeybi were "killed" when Pteppic brought off the inhumation not just of an entire pantheon, but also of a many-thousand years old civilization (or at the very least cast down into the limbo of being mindless and purposeless "small gods") then the fall of Cephut might well have set up a psychic vacuum and a job opportunity for an otherwise struggling volcano goddess to transfer herself into and make her own, with slight modifications. After all, where does the remit of a god of cutlery end - knives, forks and spoons, yes. But whose divine province is related kitchen equipment? Serving spoons are definitely Cephut's by definition: but what of fishslices, spatulas, whisks, those oddly shaped and toothed pasta-servers which resemble the progeny of a spoon and fork, and all the other outsize, awkwardly shaped and non-square utensils which are prone to jamming the kitchen drawers?

Cephut, if his cameo in "Discworld Noir" is anything to go by, is a more-intelligent-than-usual deity who found a niche even after the fall of the Djelibeybian gods. After all, every home on the disc has cutlery, and if only Djelibeybi evolved a dedicated God of Cutlery, it follows on that there would have been a worldwide vacancy for such a God, once called into existance in one place. Cephut would have been bright enough to have seen this and escaped the fall of his co-pantheon. Even chopsticks are cutlery, in an Agatean context.

And if Cephut's creations, being almost purpose-designed to jam drawers, then went on to clog storage space around the Disc, this then called into being a vacancy for a deity who would be prayed to to unclog said drawers.... in keeping with a certain mind-set on the Disc, it is tempting to suggest these two deities got together to organise things for mutual benefit!
