Can't shake off that "Frord" is a smidgin away from the nonsense-word invented by Robert Anton Wilson for the Illuminatus trilogy: fnord.

A fnord can be an amusing and apposite misprint in a newspaper: it can also be a codeword used to activate a Manchurian Candidate to go out and perform a task for his/her controllers. It can also be a conditioning word inculcated into all of us in prmary school, so that we don't go psychotic when we see what sort of a world we live in - thus a newspaper story might read {fnord} two hundred and eighty thousand people die in Haiti earthquake {fnord} as aid from First World barely trickles in, despite USA, GB, Canada and France having the ability to deliver. {fnord} It is estimated that as many again will die in the aftermath {fnord}.

How would this concept fit into the Discworld, though?

{Frord}Your Guild of Musician dues are seventy-five dolars per head {frord}.This may be pretty near 100% of a full year's income for the average musician, but it is a perfectly reasonable amount for your Guild to insist on {frord} as its due for representing your health and wellbeing and earning potential {frord}. Any damage inflicted no you for not paying is in fact self-inflicted {frord}
