Albert has a concept which he explains to Death with the example of a cat in a box which may or may not be alive. Only by opening the box to observe the cat can this be certain. Death disapproved strongly of this.


Variant explanations so far voiced include:

  • You can either know where you are or what you're doing, but never both at the same time.
  • You can either know who you are or what you've drunk, but...what was the question?
