Short Street is the longest street in Ankh-Morpork, illustrating that famous Ankh-Morpork subtle humor. (Others of the main radial roads are longer, but change names at some point.) It runs from Filigree Street opposite the Mended Drum due Widdershins to what was previously the only unnamed gate in the city wall; the The Compleat Ankh-Morpork names this as Traders' Gate.

In Night Watch trading vehicles are unsuccessfully diverted down Short Street, which suggests it is not a main thoroughfare and not suitable for "long vehicles" -i.e. horse drawn carriages with four horses/oxen.
