The reservoir into which a wizard will store magical power.

Usually made of wood - sapient pearwood is especially prized for this - but one notorious example, forged by Ipslore the Red and bequeathed to his son Coin - was forged from octiron.

Detail of design is different from wizard to wizard, but the general shape is the same: about six feet long and with a very prominent knob on the end that has been immortalised in song.

In extremis, it may be employed as a witch uses her broomstick, but most wizards prefer to remain at ground level.

The staff cannot store up an infinite amount of magic, and repeated or unwise use will drain it to the point where all it is capable of is a sad little pffft- noise.
