Information given in The Compleat Discworld Atlas describes the Djel as rising in the Herelayan Mountains in Elharib then passing through a long river valley through Elharib and Ur until it reaches the flood plain, which comprises most of Djelibeybi. The Djel now provides an industry dedicated to crocodile leather, crocodile meat, and the production of luxury bespoke shoes, handbags and wallets.
Djelibeybi literally means 'Child of the Djel'.
