A major cross-street street in The Shades, considered to be the poorest area of Ankh-Morpork. It appears to divide the crime-ridden central portion from the merely grubby industrial area rimward. It runs from Pearl Dock towards the Cattle Market, where it diverts to Chittling Street.

Despite being one of the poorest areas in the city, the inhabitants still buy house paint, good funerals and other things that come second place to food. The sad truth is that the people in Cockbill Street believe that it's important to keep up appearances and that buying soap to clean the table is better than buying food to put on it. Most people here have Standards.

Sam Vimes and Lupine Wonse grew up here. They were both in the Cockbill Street Roaring Lads street gang. Another Cockbill Street child was Doreen Winkings, although in her current position as Countess Notfaroutoe, she would prefer not to be reminded of her humble origins. Other residents include the Easy family and another of Vimes's generation, the much-picked-upon William Scuggins.

On the pavement here, perhaps for ever, is a hopscotch 'device' in chalk.
